Women&Technologies: research and innovation

The one day Conference will be held within the IFIP WCC (World Computer Congress: http://www.wcc2008.org ) at Milano, Italy, on September 8th, 2008 on the subject of Women&Technologies: research and innovation.
This event will open under the patronage of Ms Viviane REDING, Member of European Commission for information society & Media.

The issue is quite popular today, not only as an effect of fashion but also of importance. Gender studies are flourishing, equal opportunity employers insist privileging women in their job offers, political parties support women. Sometimes we have the impression that things evolve in the right direction, sometimes we feel treated like those people who are helped under the condition that they remain in their “reserved” areas.

Basically, the Gianna Martinengo's wish (Gianna Martinengo is the Chairperson of the Conference) with this Conference is to reverse stereotypes, counterargument preconceptions and clarify misconceptions, by establishing direct links between women and technologies showing that there are several unexplored synergies from which both may profit in an unpredictable way.

In order to select among the potential contributions the most effective ones, the Conference (which is expected to become a cornerstone event in the vision of the future of Women&Technologies) will focus on :

* women using and producing technologies
* research and innovation
